Meet the coaches

Phil Doig

co-owner, MMA/jiu jitsu coach

Coach Phil has been training and competing in combat sports for over 20 years. His journey began on the mat as a scholastic wrestler, culminating in a New York State Sectional Championship during his senior year in 2004. After graduation, he returned to his alma mater as an assistant coach, helping lead the team to a sectional title.

In 2007, Phil moved to New Jersey to expand his martial arts horizon into Mixed Martial Arts (MMA). He began training in Combat Submission Wrestling (Catch Wrestling) under John Potenza, while simultaneously honing his striking under Chris Tran at Weapons 9 Muay Thai. Over the course of 10 amateur MMA fights, Phil captured two amateur titles before turning professional in 2012.

Phil continued his evolution as a martial artist in 2013 by joining forces with UFC veteran Kurt Pellegrino. Under Pellegrino's guidance, Phil dedicated himself to the art of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, ultimately earning his BJJ Black Belt in 2021. With two decades of competitive and coaching experience across multiple disciplines, Coach Phil brings a wealth of deep, well-rounded knowledge to his students.

Ian Morris

Co-owner, jiu jitsu coach

Ian's journey in the martial arts began at just 4, with four years of karate that instilled the discipline and focus that would shape a lifetime on the mats. High school brought wrestling, where the grind of live competition sharpened both technique and toughness. From there, the path led into judo and aikido, each adding new layers of understanding around leverage, timing, and control.

In 2013, Ian  found Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu  — and it became more than just another martial art. It became a calling. What started as personal training evolved into a deep, ongoing pursuit: earning his Black belt under Kurt Pellegrino, and along the way, discovering a genuine love for teaching.
